SASSE HOUSE, WOOLLAHRA – PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project involved the extensive remodelling of a terrace in Woollahra and is part of a terrace row within a Heritage Conservation Area. The design strategy was to maintain as much of the original terrace as possible while demolishing the parts that could no longer be adapted successfully. This resulted in the main range being kept and the rear dogleg being removed.
The main body of the house was maintained externally, with internal modifications updating the amenity. The rear of the house was modified in a number of ways:
The ground floor side wall was extended to the boundary and the floor level stepped down to align with the garden, creating a large open family, kitchen and dining area.
As is often the case with heritage terraces, the upper floor had to retain its external appearance from the rear lane and so was updated internally.
